Stabilizing Muscles

"Short, deep muscles (e.g., those inserting on the vertebrae or foot bones) tend to be responsible for precise, small-scale adjustments rather than gross movements." - Blandine Calais-Germain in Anatomy of Movement

For years I've been teaching people how to slackline, telling them it strengthens the small stabilizing fine motor control muscles. Now I'm learning just what those muscles are in anatomy class for yoga teacher training. So much to learn in so little time hurts my brain.
